HOW TO BE A BESTSELLING AUTHOR LIKE DR. STEVE WEBB

Dr. Steve Webb saw a big problem he wanted to solve in the world. He wanted to stop school violence. Like most worthy causes, this is no simple task. But Dr. Webb learned that having a book was going to speed things up significantly. So, he put his faith in his author mentor by believing this was true, and he will be the first to tell you it was his smartest move towards ending school violence.

Before his book, things went forward with little steps. “Some” people would listen to him, some would invite him to speak for free. Others paid no attention to him or his practical solution.

His author mentor showed him how to position everything he was doing as a published author, even though his book had yet to be written. Surprised by the instant respect and attention he started to get, we set off over the next year to write his book.

Steve’s book was published in October, and we did a Bestseller Launch a couple weeks after.

Like all big successes, they appear to happen “overnight”, maybe even a miracle. In actuality, months of preparation of exactly what needed to be done to increase the odds in his favor and hard work made this happen. It’s never a complete surprise when another client becomes a bestselling author because they’re doing everything possible to get it done.

Education in a Violent World became a #1 Bestseller as a “#1 New Release” and Bestseller in numerous categories. This is when things really started to take off for this author.

Though he is just on his way to making schools safer for our children, the dynamic is completely different for him. More people in high places, the media, the speaking circuit,… you name it, are ALL willing to take his calls.

The most important thing to remember is that you can amplify your hard work so that the results are 10-fold. In other words, when you approach your important endeavor, do it as a published author. Better yet, be a Bestselling Author, and reap the “magical” benefits of this status.

Now that you’re seriously considering reaching out to book clubs to promote your book, it’s important to know how to make your book club appearance or call-in a success. Here are some tips to help you facilitate a discussion that book club members will enjoy:

  • Set expectations with the organizer. Let the organizer know how much time you have to speak, and make sure you arrive or call in on time.
  • Be prepared. Plan to talk casually about how you got the idea to write your book, or how you became a writer. Share some anecdotes and be ready to answer questions.
  • Be engaging. Smile when you speak, and include some humor if possible. Keep your talk short and concise.
  • Expect awkward silences. Even the most well-organized conversations can have lulls. Be prepared to fill in gaps with anecdotes to keep the conversation going.
  • Be open to critique. Book club members may be critical of your writing or you as a person. Stay patient, gracious, and compassionate. Conducting yourself with poise and dignity will serve you well in the long run.
  • Upsell gently. Let listeners know about other opportunities to connect with you, such as your website or social media profiles. Talk about your next book or any other available works.
  • Ask for help. Let listeners know that you appreciate book recommendations and would love to connect with other book clubs and readers.
  • Send a thank-you note. A few days after the event, send a thank-you note to the organizer to show your appreciation for their time and support.

By following these tips, you can make your book club appearance or call-in a success and generate interest in your book among readers.

There’s more you can learn about this, so come back regularly to find more awesome information that will set you apart from your competition.
